13 may be unlucky for some, but when I was in junior school it was my fire number (we all had to file out in numerical order whenever the alarm sounded) and as I survived my education without being burnt alive I’ve always considered it a lucky number for me.

So what better time for me to start a new career than in 2013?!

After more than a decade at ITV Wales I was in need of a change, so I have left the channel to work on a variety of new freelance projects.

However I won’t be away from the ITV Wales audience for long! In the Spring I’ll be fronting a half hour programme for their current affairs series Wales This Week. But before then I have several projects with Barn Media, as well as work at BBC Wales. I am also in talks with a new digital channel which will be launching later this year and I may even be writing some articles for a national newspaper as well, so there are exciting times on the horizon!

And it’s not just my professional life that will be busy, but my private life too.

Four months ago I bought a new house in Cardiff. It needed gutting, but I’ve been working with a great team of craftsmen and my new home will be ready to move into in just a couple of week, so it couldn’t have worked out better. I’ll have a new office in my new home in time to start my new career.

Obviously I am going to miss working at the ITV Wales newsroom, it has been a huge part of my life for so long, but I am really excited about having the freedom to try new things and I’m hopeful that 2013 will be my year.
