Its official, I’m in love with someone called Pierre. No, he’s not a sensitive and romantic Frenchman; he’s my new French Bulldog.

Pierre’s 1st night in new bed

Five weeks ago I a saw an advert for a litter of puppies in Bridgend, so decided to pay the pups a visit – just to have a look. I picked Pierre out of his crate and he snuggled into me straight away, it was love at first sight! Then when I put him down to play be bounced about, leaping in the air, and I knew I had to have him.

The problem was, I was going to America a week later to be a bridesmaid at my cousin’s wedding, but problems are designed to be solved. The breeders, Ian and Donna, agreed to hold onto him for me for two weeks and as soon as I returned I collected him.

Since then I have been more popular than I’ve ever been in my life, with visitors arriving on pretty much a daily basis to meet the Powerful Pierre. Even my mum rang the other day to see if I was in because she wanted a cuddle with the puppy!

He loves to play!

He loves to play!

Obviously it hasn’t just been a whirlwind of socialising; there are the downsides like toilet training and making sure the cat doesn’t feel left out because the dog is getting so much attention. The other thing is he snores, it’s so loud he sounds like a pneumatic drill when he’s sleeping!

But we are having fewer accidents on the carpet, and the cat and dog are no longer fighting like, well cat and dog. I can’t do much about the snoring, but on the plus side I always have company, I’m walking more and chatting to lots of new people as everyone wants to stop and smooth Pierre.

I really am a smitten kitten (or should that be puppy?!) and it seems love is definitely in the air because a day after I picked up Pierre my good friends Andrea and Lee Byrne bought a Schnauzer puppy called Hank.

Like all good relationships, the ones we have with our dogs will require patience, but so far mine and Pierre’s love is one made in hound heaven!
