Just five weeks ago I was one of the lucky journalists in the Wales Football Camp, interviewing the players and management team, as they made their last minutes preparations for Euro 2016.
At the time, most of us thought it was an achievement for Wales to be part of the tournament, after all it was over 50 years since they’d made it to the final stages of a major tournament. But yesterday Chris Coleman’s men returned home triumphant! OK, they hadn’t won the tournament but they had defied expectations by making it through to the semi finals, and they made an army of new fans along the way.
The side’s slogan throughout the tournament had been #TogetherStronger and that message definitely worked. Not only did the players pull together as a team, but the Welsh supporters who travelled to France embraced the other nations, shunning football violence in favour of singing.
As a Welsh woman, I for one am proud.
